Stella a seven year old girl child is very active in her studies and co-curricular activities. StellaÂ's parents Mr. and Mrs. Brown are very happy with their happy family. Mood swing in child is not very common. Certain factors are there which cause mood swing in child. Difference in the environment generally helps in changing the mood in a child. The child tends to be in a euphoric mood in which case he becomes more talkative, over active and then may show irritation and anger that can lead to severe depression which makes them feel low.

What more, this can instigate your child to harm himself/herself. These symptoms are like that of mania and depression. However, these symptoms are not that profound as in case of adults, since hormonal anomaly in not that much in the case of children. There are a large number of external factors which may cause similar symptoms, but they should not be confused with mood swing in child.

Mood swing in child can be treated by medication. But you need not think that mood swings in child can only be taken care of by medication only. There are many therapies that are can cure mood swing in child. Understanding the childÂ's psychology is very important. Parents need to give quality time to make their child stable and psychologically strong. Medication recommended by child specialist or a psychiatrist only should be used. The most used medication (in case of bipolar disorder) is lithium which is an antipsychotic medication. Lithium helps in stabilizing both mania and depression.

It must be kept in mind that there are also some side-effects of lithium such as weakness, drowsiness, fatigue etc. In case one doesnÂ't prefer lithium, anticonvulsants can be given. It is also advised that before taking any medicine you can consult a psychiatrist and after proper diagnosis of your child and after finding out the reason behind mood swing in child, treatment should be done.
